Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a health profession dedicated to getting you moving and promoting physical wellness. Physiotherapists work with people of all ages, ranging from children to elderly members of our community, and specialize in the following areas:

  • sports related injuries
  • pain from chronic conditions and diseases (such as arthritis, fibromyalgia)
  • repetitive strains
  • pre and post-surgical rehabilitation
  • chronic neck and back pain
  • management of respiratory and cardiac conditions
  • management of neurological conditions (such as parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal cord injury)
  • work related injuries
  • pre and post natal care
  • whiplash
  • scar tissue management/breakdown
  • education and planning to prevent future injury

Physiotherapists have extensive knowledge in human anatomy and biomechanics and understand how these components play a role in pathology and injury. They will assess and treat your condition and provide you with information and tools to help you maintain your well-being, mobility, strength and independence.

IMS

IMS is a therapeutic form of treatment performed by a physiotherapist that utilizes thin, solid, filament needles to stimulate neuromuscular tissues. Myofascial trigger points, or “knots” in the muscles are needled because they are part of the production and maintenance of the pain cycle and they can often refer pain to other areas in the body. IMS is helpful in “resetting” dysfunction in the muscle being treated so that specific, active strengthening can be resumed

Running assessments

Running injuries are extremely common, whether you are just starting out your running routine, trying to improve your already established distance and pace, or are an avid marathoner.  Why these injuries happen and learning to prevent them are the key to continue to enjoy the sport of running.  A physiotherapist can help you examine the factors contributing to your specific injury, including shoes, running surface, running schedule, and imbalances and dysfunction in your body and biomechanics.  Appropriate manual physiotherapy treatment along with exercise prescription, education and help in planning an appropriate running schedule will all be individualized based on the initial assessment findings in order to get you back to your full potential
